A PCR(Polymerase chain reaction) Test is done to detect Herpes Simplex Virus. HSV cause infection usually termed as "Herpes" that manifests as sores and blisters. By PCR the we can differentiate between HSV1 and HSV2. HSV1 usually cause cold sores on mouth while HSV2 cause sores on genitals. HSV2 can also be passed to babies at the time of birth from mothers who have genital herpes. In rare cases it also effects eyes and brain. PCR test is done on cells, fluid from the sores, blood, or spinal fluid.
