High sensitivity C-reactive protein is tested in cardiovascular(heart) diseases along with other tests such as lipid profile, cholesterol test and more. C-reactive protein is a protein which increases during inflammation or after a surgery or heart attack. Therefore, detecting its amount in blood helps in knowing if a person is susceptible to Cardiovascular diseases(CVD). A very low levels of C-reactive protein can be detected by hs-CRP. You may be asked to fast 9 to 12 hours before the test.
