Adenoids X-ray
High up in the throat, right behind the nose, are adenoids, a tissue patch. They are a component of the lymphatic system, just as tonsils. The lymphatic system eliminates infection and maintains the proper balance of bodily fluids. The tonsils and adenoids function by capturing germs that enter through the nose and mouth.
Around age 5, adenoids often start to decrease. By the time a person reaches adolescence, they are all but gone. The body will then have different defences against bacteria.
