International Women's Day is a United Nations-sanctioned global holiday, celebrated annually on 8th March. The theme for International Women's Day,(IWD 2022) is, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, using #BreakTheBias to raise awareness about the prevalent bias against women.

Women, a being who is responsible for bringing life to this world, but unfortunately this gender has always been facing injustice and inequality. This Women’s Day, we celebrate the contributions of women and emphasize the importance of the role of women in the progress of the world, including issues such as climate change.

History Of Women’s Day

Women have been the victim of injustice every generation and after a long time a voice started to emerge.

In the mid-twentieth century, the world was seeing ladies' testimonial developments springing up across the world from New Zealand to the US.

Different variants of a "Women’s Day" existed before it turned into the worldwide festival we know.

Back in February 1909, the Socialist Party of America coordinated a Women's Day in New York City.

After a year, the International Socialist Women's Conference in Germany proposed a yearly (however dateless) Women's Day.

We would get March 8 from the day that women acquired the vote in Russia right after the February Revolution in 1917.

On March 8, 1975, when, during International Women's Year, the United Nations celebrated it as an official holiday. Since 1975, the holiday has become a method to spread awareness around the globe and a way to celebrate women.

The date was subsequently taken on by worldwide women's activist developments and was then made an authority worldwide occasion by the United Nations in 1977.

Theme Of International Women’s Day 2022

International Women's Day is a United Nations-sanctioned global holiday, celebrated annually on 8th March. The theme for International Women's Day,(IWD 2022) is, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, using #BreakTheBias to raise awareness about the prevalent bias against women.

UN Women added that the 2022 theme is about "recognising the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future for all."

This day is celebrated for women. A woman is an emblem of strength who never surrenders. Wish for empowering humanity should be fulfilled by empowering the women around us.

Biases Faced By Women And How To Break Them

Tragically, notwithstanding the mushrooming of public strategies and global shows that deny separation and consolidate gender fairness in the authoritative structure of Pakistan, there is a gigantic hole among strategy and practice - Pakistan as of late positioned second lowest on a rundown of 145 nations being assessed for the gender gap.

Women to this day face constant bias, be it the office they work at, at schools, or even in their own families when they aren’t given preference over the males in their family.

Prevalent patriarchal attitudes, weak policy implementations, and societal norms weaken women’s positions in workplaces.

Many women do not get equal salaries at the workplace. When it comes to opportunities they are always a second choice as compared to their male counterparts.

Accusing women of being bossy when the same statement from a man is considered ‘Speaking like a leader’ while having to always think that it is hard to have their voices heard in meetings.

Workplace harassment is a very common occurrence and there need voices to be raised and break what has become a norm in society.

In order to fight the bias, it is essential that we know the root causes of the biases that are so prevalent for furthering the diversity, equity and inclusion agenda that is vital to building progressive and harmonious societies.

A world liberated from inclination, generalizations, and separation. A world that is different, impartial, and comprehensive. A reality where contrast is esteemed and celebrated.
